Corona & Make in India

In my previous post "Wake up, Indians...", you read about how much we rely on imports from China, but in in the present, if anyone needs to save the the world suffering from the corona virus, it's the medical equipment and drug industry.

Factories producing PPE kits and masks, which are essential for the safety of doctors and medical personnel serving Covid19's patients, are underway for 24 hours. PPE kits were not manufactured in India, before. But in the nowadays, the need for large quantities of it, Indian Goverment has allowed to some companies after testing the product for produce. Currently, these companies supply 6 to 7 thousand kits per day, but soon it is trying to increase the capacity to 15 thousand. So far, the government has demanded 26 lakh kits for these companies. But even this is not enough, because the Government of India is importing more than 10 lakh kits.

Only two companies in India manufacture N95 masks, Venus Safety Health and Magnum Medicare. The bulk of their production is exported to Europe, Central Gulf countries and the United States from last 20-25 years. However, due to the current situation, the Indian government has banned their export. They have a maximum production capacity of up to 1 lakh per day. It's also insufficient, so the DRDO is trying to produce 20 thousand masks daily with the help of local manufacturers to keep the supply.

We currently have 14,000 ventilators available in various hospitals. A domestic manufacturer, Agva Healthcare in Noida has been able to develop suitable ventilators and an order of 10,000 ventilators has been placed on him. This order is expected to be completed within the next 8 days. In addition, an order for 30,000 ventilators has been placed on Bharat Electronics Limited which is going to collaborate with domestic manufacturers in this endeavour. Indian Auto manufacturers are also preparing to manufacture ventilators.

The covid19 virus brought a new disease to the world. Although the symptoms are similar to pneumonia, her medication did not cure the virus. Then doctors from all over the world started testing different available drugs, as the increasing number of patients was causing anxiety. But there was not enough time to make the vaccine needed. And then doctors in many countries found that a drug called hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is effective, which used for malaria.

The Indian Council of Medical Research also recommends giving HCQ the drug to covid19 patients. Based on one information, each covid19 patient requires a course of 14 tablets. India currently has major pharmaceutical manufacturing companies for HCQ are IPCA LABORATORIES LTD, ZYDUS CADILA and WALLACE PHARMACEUTICALS LTD. Recently, the Government of India has ordered 100 million pills from IPCA LABORATORIES LTD, ZYDUS CADILA companies. And that's why the shares of these companies in the Indian stock market are setting new highs every day.

According to Sudarshan Jain, general secretary of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, India is manufacturing hydroxycloroquine, 70 percent of the total requirement of world. US President Donald Trump has ordered 30 million pills to India. In addition, 30 other countries have called for pills to India. So India's production capacity has increased to 200 million tablets per month.

But India is over dependent on China for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) because india importing 90% of APIs  from its requirements. And around 30 % importing only from China. API  is the base ingredient for medicine. Indian government knows the importance of API but still they ignore issue several times. Because production of APIs create large quantity of water pollution.

Think the importance of what we need...

India is ready for manufacturing facility;

The manufacturing hub is an idea, a location, which would be useful for a factory and Industry. All the essential services required by an industry will be available there at minimum cost and in less time. The manufacturing hub is an idea, a location, which would be useful for a factory, plant and Industry. All the essential services required by an industry will be available there at minimum cost and in less time. China is currently the world's largest manufacturing hub. It was due to a combination of smart policy, hard work and good timing. It started in 1979. China has worked hard for this from last 40 years. Then, Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan have also made great development in manufacturing. India has been working hard for a long time. In 2014, "Make in India" was announced. Yes, there is something going on that you want to understand.
